The six statues at the back represent the six continents. From left to right: Alexandre Schœnewerk's l'Europe, Alexandre Falguière's l'Asie, Eugène Delaplanche's l'Afrique, Ernest Eugène Hiolle's l'Amérique du Nord, Aimé Millet's Amérique du Sud, and Mathurin Moreau's l'Océanie.

Space Invaders conquering the world
The evening before I visited Canal Saint-Martin. Famous for one of the set locations of the movie Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain. In the movie, Amélie enjoys skipping stones in the water of this canal.
The previous evening it was way too dark to see anything, so I decided to come back today. The area around this canal is great as there weren't a lot of tourists. I found an incredible little film shop; Potemkine (Rue Beaurepaire). Here I finally found the dvd which was on my wishlist for ages (Tampopo). Canal Saint-Martin doesn't look as romantic as in the movie, but it sure is a beautiful place.

I still had plenty of time left, so decided to visit the famous Cimetière du Père-Lachaise (cemetary, where lots of famous French people are buried).
